Commands - TOC/jumplinks
Speech / Communication
> say hello
> .hello
Your screen shows: You say, hello
Other players see: [player name] says, hello
You can talk to others by using the say command, or by just prepending your speech with a single period (no space needed). This command is also useful for talking to yourself when you’re in an empty room.
> emote falls down
> /me falls down
> ,falls down
You see: You emote, “[player name] falls down”
Others see: [player name] falls down
Emoting is a great way to communicate moods, create visuals and otherwise just elaborate on the illusion. Go on, buy into it.
> shout help!
> !help!
You see: You shout, “HELP!”
Others see: [player name] shouts, “HELP!”
Shouting can be annoying, but it gets the point across. Your text will automatically be capitalized and bolded when you shout.
> correct the sky is failing
> *the sky is failing
You see: You correct, “the sky is failing”
Others see: [player name] corrects, “the sky is failing”
Did you make a mistake? Did someone else? You can straighten it out using this command, or maybe just start an argument.
Traveling around
Each of the following can also be abbreviated to a single letter:> north
> east
> west
> south
> up
> down
You see a description of the location you arrive at.
Others see: [player name] heads off to the East (or West, etc., depending on which way you went)
Others in the new area in which you arrive will see: [player name] has arrived from the West [or East, etc.]
You can move freely throughout the land by simply indicating the direction in which you wish to go. Unless it’s blocked.
Object interaction
> inventory
> inv
> items
> i
> holding
You see a list of all items carried in your inventory
Others see nothing
Your inventory consists of everything that you’ve taken (with the take command,) as long as you’re still holding it.
> look at the empty bottle
> look at empty bottle
> look empty bottle
> l …
> examine …
> x …
You see a description of the item
Others see nothing
Looking at items is a great way to find out more about them. You can also look at other players. If you ever want to take a casual look around a room, just type look or l all by itself (this is also done automatically each time you arrive at a room).
> take paperclip
> take a paperclip
> take 3 paperclips
> get paperclip
> grab …
> yoink …
You see: You take a paperclip. You now have [#], and [#] remain in the room.
Others see: [player name] takes a paperclip.
Want it? See if you can take it. With some items (especially coins), you can specify the number you wish to take: take 17 coins. When you take something, it is added to your personal inventory.
> give apple [to] player
You see: [object] given to [player]
Others see: [player name] gives an apple to [player]
Sharing makes you warm and fuzzy.
> drop apple
> discard apple
You see: You drop an apple. You have [#] remaining.
Others see: [player name] drops an apple in the area.
When you drop something, it’s left on the floor for anyone to take.
> buy cocktail
You see: You hand 4 coins to the barmaid, and she passes a cocktail to you.
Others see: [player name] buys a cocktail.
When you buy something, it’s immediately available in your inventory so you can use it to: drop, give, eat, drink, etc.
> wear cowboy hat
> don cowboy hat
> dress in cowboy hat
You see: You dress yourself in a cowboy hat.
Others see: [player name] dresses [him/her/it]self in a cowboy hat.
Whatever you choose to wear is listed in your description when other players look at you.

> login {currently offline}
Use this command to log in with your existing player account.
> exit
> quit
> q
> logout
You should type this (or click the link) whenever you want to leave the game, to avoid the possibility of others chatting and thinking you’re still there.
You’ll be returned to the Who’s online
section of the main page.
Others see: [player name] has left the realm.
> who
> users
Type this to display a list of players in the game, along with what room they’re located in. The list also includes idle time and their doing/status/away statements.
> clear
> cls
This command clears the old text in your command window. You don’t have to worry about missing anything if you use it though, as any new text coming through since your last refresh will still get displayed after the clear action finishes. And there’s always the history command too if you need it.
> history
> h
Walked into a room in the middle of someone’s juicy conversation? Use the history command to see a log of events and speech for the room you’re in. This is also a good way to look back at any previous info that has been forgotten, scrolled away or that you cleared. These logs may eventually be purged when they grow large.
> status whatever
> away doing whatever
> doing whatever
This command lets you show other players what you’re currently up to. The text you enter after “status” will appear with your name in your location’s player list, and in the who list. This can be used for actual status messages such as napping
, BRB
, lunch break
, or just for jokes. Tip: Try emoticions here too. Use the handy icon helper to insert them at the prompt.
Finally, additional commands are known to appear, so be sure to experiment. Keep in mind that there are many undocumented commands for fun (such as secret spells, passwords, etc.). There are now more than 1,400 recognized verbs! Many of those are synonyms, but still there are hundreds of unique actions, and even more ways to combine them. Try anything you can think of to see whether it works; and if you like, send us new command ideas!
